The Illinois State Police has arrested 5 individuals in an anti-human trafficking operation.
In a release from the Illinois State Police, it states the ISP conducted an anti-human trafficking operation in the Effingham area resulting in five arrested. On January 25th, the ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Trafficking Enforcement Bureau led the operation focused on identifying individuals seeking to engage in commercial sex acts.
Five individuals were arrested and charged–
38 year old Daniel A. Bennett of Bethany, who was charged with Indecent Solicitation of a Child, Traveling to Meet a Child, Solicitation to Meet a Child
32 year old Justin P. Covey of Irvine, Kentucky, who was charged with Solicitation of a Sexual Act
38 year old Scott A. Grote of Centralia, who was charged with Solicitation of a Sexual Act
71 year old David L. Hackett of Tuscola, who was charged with Solicitation of a Sexual Act
50 year old Thad D. White of Cowden, who was charged with Solicitation of a Sexual Act
The release goes on to state the operation was a multifaceted approach by ISP aimed at stopping human trafficking in Illinois. The ISP says those also participating included the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force, ISP DCI Zone 6 and Zone 8, ISP SWAT, ISP Intelligence Support Unit, ISP Troop 9, Central Illinois Enforcement Group, Effingham Police Department, Christian County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations. The State Police adds the Effingham County States Attorney’s Office also provided support for the operation.
