Thanksgiving dinner shoppers will get a bit of a break in the pocketbook this year. Illinois shoppers participating in the annual American Farm Bureau Federation’s Thanksgiving Cost Survey reported the average cost of a traditional Thanksgiving meal is down slightly compared to 2022. This year saw a 4.5 percent decrease from the previous year’s record-high of $64.05. Tasha Bunting is the Director of Commodity Programs with the Illinois Farm Bureau
Bunting says that is because there is not as much bird flu to deal with and it is cheaper to feed the turkeys.
The Thanksgiving dinner survey was first conducted in 1986.
