A school choice expert says there is abundant hypocrisy when it comes to Illinois’ only school choice program which is in danger of coming to an end. The Invest in Kids school choice scholarship program is set to expire at the end of the year unless lawmakers extend it this fall. Nathan Cuneen from the American Federation for Children says Governor J.B. Pritzker has completely flip-flopped on the program.
Cuneen notes that since Illinois’ privately-funded school choice program began, the public school system has been funded an additional $2 billion dollars to account for changes that will allow them to keep up with the movement and improve their educational experience. And even with all of the additional revenue, he says, Illinois public schools continue to fail.
