Veto session priorities stacking up for Illinois legislators

With two bills dealing with what kind of electricity Illinoisans get and how they get it vetoed by the governor, legislators coming back next month expect to be busy with energy policy. Lawmakers may consider Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s veto of a measure giving right of first refusal to Ameren Illinois when constructing transmission lines.

That was Republican state Rep. Wayne Rosenthal. He also said to expect action on lifting the moratorium on new nuclear facilities Pritzker vetoed. Some say the governor’s policy shifting to wind and solar power makes the electric grid less reliable. Democratic state Rep. Jay Hoffman said he hopes to move forward with allowing small modular nuclear reactors and other priorities during veto session.
