The Vandalia School Board heard a presentation from representatives of the Vandalia Christian Academy at their monthly board meeting on Tuesday night. VCA Board members Casey Leidner, Star Smith and Larry Koberlein were present for the meeting. Leidner said VCA had put in an offer to rent classrooms at the former Jefferson Primary School that currently houses the Regional Office of Education and also houses Metro Church services. VCA’s recent offer was declined and Leidner says they were bringing two new offers to the school board. The first would be $65,000 excluding the Metro used classrooms and the second would be for $75,500 for the entire west wing which includes 11 classrooms and office. Leidner says they would also like use of areas like the cafeteria and gymnasium and playgrounds that they know are shared spaces and they are prepared to utilize scheduling amongst everyone. Vandalia Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Garrison asked if they had the offers down on a sheet and Leidner said she would get it to them and Board President Joe Lawson says the board would talk about it in closed session. The VCA representatives were also asked about long term plans. Koberlein and Leidner says they would entertain more than a year in the space and would be open to working out something long term and are working continuously to build up funds. They stated that they believed the current renters are currently set through 2026 and Leidner said they would look to hopefully go as least that long. Another aspect Leidner and Smith said that they would like to look at would be getting back to a sports co-op with Vandalia Schools.
