It is the first day of Astronomical Summer. It is the summer solstice and that is our day that is often referred to as the “longest day of the year.” What is meant is it is the day with the most daylight of any day during the year, with sunrise today at 5:31 am and sunset at 8:25 pm. The daylight will decrease a little each day from today until the first day of Astronomical Winter, which will be December 21st.
As for weather, most in the weather world follow the meteorological summer—that actually runs for the months of June, July and August.
