A measure at the Illinois Statehouse looks to possibly prevent future confrontations with law enforcement over why someone may get pulled over. Drivers may not remember it from the driver’s handbook, but Illinois has an old law that bans air freshener tags and anything else from hanging on the rearview mirror. State Rep. La Shawn Ford has proposed a bill getting rid of the law. House Bill 2389 passed the Illinois House with bipartisan support on March 24th.
When he asked Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias to support his effort to get the law off the books, Giannoulias did not hesitate.
The measure passed the full Senate earlier this month and can now be sent to the governor.
