Although not nearly as bad as was fears, severe storms still left their mark on the area tonight.
Bond and Fayette County were both under a severe thunderstorm warning during the 8 pm hour tonight. The storms were moving at a 70 mile per hour clip and bringing with them winds of 60 miles per hour, heavy rains and some small hail. The storms brought down some trees and power lines and left behind some large power outages in the county. As of 9:45 pm, Ameren lists 286 power outages in Fayette County and 132 in Bond County. As for those in Southwestern Electric Cooperative territory there are 939 power outages in Fayette County but none in Bond County. No major damages have been reported as of this time. The area was under a Tornado Watch and the National Weather Service had placed the entire region under a Level 4 for storm severity—a level rarely seen in the region.
