The Vandalia School Board handled several personnel agenda items during its monthly meeting on Monday night. Four district resignations from Maegan Tate (VES Teacher Aide), Sean Kellerman (VCHS Social Studies Teacher and VCHS Soccer Coach), Nicole Whetstone (VJHS Teacher Aide) and Ashley Grubaugh (VJHS Attendance Liaison) were approved by a 7-0 vote. A motion for district employment for Molly Kern (OKAW Health Occupation Teacher), Alicia Gonzales (VES TLC Program Aide) and for Matt Steele (VES Custodian) was approved by a vote of 7-0. A leave absence was approved for Rachelle Hosick for the 2023-2024 school year to fulfill a student teaching requirement for her Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. A motion to approve the district retirements of Shelli Ratermann (intent to retire May 31, 2028) and Darrin “Smokey” Newsome (retired March 7, 2023) was approved by a 7-0 vote.
Six district coaches and volunteer coaches were approved by a vote of 7-0 including Dustin Jackson (VJHS Boys Track Coach), Kelly Bowers (Volunteer VJHS Assistant Track Coach), Brad Bowers (Volunteer VJHS Assistant Track Coach), Melvin McKinney (Volunteer Fishing Coach), Gail Dugan (Volunteer Fishing Coach) and Conner Satterthwaite (Volunteer Fishing Coach).
In other business, the school board approved the purchase of a sound system for VCHS, creation of a VJHS Activity Fund for Nourishing Greatness and creation of a VCHS Activity Fund for Athletic Facility Fundraising.
