The state of Illinois has announced it intends to pay off the remaining $1.3 billion dollar unemployment insurance loan balance and replenish the fund for the future. The agreement will save taxpayers an estimated $20 million dollars in interest costs that would be due next September. Nationwide, the Government Accountability Office reported nearly 1 in 5 unemployment claims may have been paid improperly.
