Dozens of lawsuits have been filed following a deadly COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans Home. The family members of 27 veterans who contracted COVID are part of lawsuits filed against the state of Illinois, the Department of Veterans Affairs and several staff members at the facility. Lindsey Lamb of Lockport lost her grandfather at the long-term facility.
A Department of Human Services inspector general issued a report, calling the response to the outbreak inefficient, reactive and chaotic. State Senator Craig Wilcox believes many are to blame for the tragedy.
The lawsuits filed in LaSalle County allege negligence and wrongful death and likely will cost the state millions of dollars.
