(Springfield, IL) — Bail is denied for a man accused of stabbing an Illinois child welfare worker to death at a home outside Springfield. Benjamin Reed was arraigned yesterday on charges of first degree murder, aggravated unlawful restraint, and aggravated battery. Authorities say Deidre Silas was attacked Tuesday while checking on six children in a home in Thayer. She was an investigator for the Illinois DCFS. Reed lived in the home.
