The Vandalia School District has received two grants, one that will allow for an additional staff member and another for a building improvement project. Vandalia Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Garrison announced during her monthly report that the district had received a grant from the Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation for an additional counselor, a K-5 mental health interventionist . The new counselor will start the second semester of the school year coming up in January and the grant is for 2 ½ years. Garrison thanked the counselors who worked with CRC over the summer on the grant. Later in the meeting, the school board approved the hiring of Kathryn Hebenstreit to serve as the mental health interventionist for second semester of the current 2021-2022 school year.
The second grant announced by Dr. Garrison is a $50,000 grant for the FY22 Round 1 School Maintenance Grant Project and will go towards the cost of the partial roof replacement project at Vandalia Elementary School.
