(Chicago, IL) — Chicago Alderman Michelle Harris is receiving a lot of support in her bid to be the next leader of the Illinois Democratic Party. The City Council floor leader for Mayor Lightfoot secured eight key endorsements yesterday that give her nearly two-thirds of the vote needed to succeed Mike Madigan as party chair. The endorsements include Congressmen Bobby Rush and Danny Davis and former state Senate President John Cullerton. If chosen, Harris would be the first woman and first person of color to hold the state’s top Democratic Party position.
