John Michel ‘Mike’ Carson, 71, of Brownstown, died at 4:55 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown. A private family burial will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the donor’s choice.
Mike was born on Friday, August 11, 1944 in Vandalia, IL to Virgil and Ethel Hilda (Swofford) Carson. He married Nelda Grace Thompson on April 5, 1964. He was retired from farming and over-the-road truck driving. He was a member of Bethany Christian Church, Brownstown.
He is survived by: his wife of over 51 years, Grace of Brownstown; son, Steven Leon Carson and his wife Angie of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Dawn Marie Schmitt of Jamestown, New York and her husband Alan of Sorento; brother, Virgil Jr (Catherine) Carson of Brownstown; sisters, Charlotte D. Atwood and her husband Jim, Sharon J. Sidwell and her husband Paul, and Nora Melody Howard and her husband Russ, all of Brownstown; five grandchildren; Stephanie Nicole Schmitt and her husband Andrew, Christopher Michael Carson, Jasmine Marie Schmitt, Shannon Lynn Schmitt, and Caitlin Hope Schmitt.
Preceding him death were his parents and brother, Lloyd Carson.
