(Springfield, IL) — While the Tuesday budget summit produced no compromise, the Illinois House today could pass a bill to free up some money the state owes to local governments. The bill would include funds collected from the gas tax needed for local roads and money from the cell phone tax that’s used for local 911 operations. Money could also be added to pay Illinois lottery winners. If the bill passes the House, Senate President John Cullerton says he’d bring that body back for a vote as soon as possible.
As of last report, the City of Vandalia had not received Motor Fuel Tax funds since June, no Use Tax money since August and no Gaming Tax Money since June. And, the total was over $200,000 that was owed to the City of Vandalia by the state for the past due water and sewer bills at the Vandalia Correctional Center.
