It was a frustrating day of travel yesterday in Vandalia, and it will continue today. First off, CSX Railroad officially began their project that closed the crossings at 5th, 6th, 8th, Remann and Van Sant Streets for planned maintenance that will probably take until this Friday evening, weather permitting. But, another project also got underway on Tuesday and that was work on Veteran’s Avenue. The work, which is believed to be more grinding and re-surfacing work like last year, is running on Veteran’s Avenue from Sunset Drive to Randolph Street. The City of Vandalia has not been given a time frame on how long the work will take. Meanwhile, add that on to the multiple construction projects currently going on in Fayette County on Interstate 70—with the bridge replacement work continuing between mile markers 62 and 64 and then another project on ongoing from mile marker 74 to 82—basically from before the St. Elmo exit to the Altamont exit.
