(Undated) — Illinois has the highest tax rate of any state in the country. That’s according to a recent study by Wallet Hub. Wallet Hub measured taxes for income, real estate, and vehicles, along with sales and excise tax. It says the average household in Illinois has a nearly 15 percent state and local tax rate. It also says Illinois’ tax burden is nearly 40 percent higher than the national average.
