The City of Vandalia has received notification today from CSX Railroad that beginning on Tuesday, June 23rd (tomorrow) the 5th street, 6th street, 8th street, Remann Street and Van Sant Street crossings within Vandalia will be closed for planned maintenance. CSX will be replacing railroad ties, smoothing out crossings, replacing the asphalt and any other work deemed necessary to complete the planned maintenance. Several construction groups will work in tandem to get the work done quickly. Weather permitting, the crossings are expected to be re-opened Friday evening, June 26th.
Mayor Rick Gottman states, “We understand that this will be an inconvenienced for emergency personnel, citizens and visitors within our community, but in order for the work to be done in a timely manner it is imperative that all crossings be closed at once in order for the machine and workers of the project to perform the work from crossing to crossing without interruption. It is unfortunate that CSX is not able to do one crossing at a time.” Mayor Gottman adds, “Just a reminder that Kennedy Boulevard and Coles Street will be open for all traffic during the closure and as always 4th street is available for car traffic only.”
