The Vandalia Bicentennial Celebration officially wrapped up this afternoon with the opening of the Time Capsule for the 150th celebration, which was held October 3rd and 4th in 1969. Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman said the only living member of the group that put together the time capsule and 150th celebration was Otto Cuppy, who was on hand to help go thru the items in the time capsule. The capsule was cut open by Steve Stombaugh from Stombaugh’s Heating and Air. Mayor Gottman said that Steve’s Father, George Stombaugh, was the one who put together and sealed up the capsule in 1969 and Steve will be doing that for the 200th celebration capsule, which will be buried next week. The pics go from the stone that marked the capsule and on thru the removal of all items today.
