An accident last night on Interstate 57 in Fayette County led to one individual being taken to the hospital with their injuries. Illinois State Police reports says that a vehicle was traveling south on I-57, about 2 miles north of Farina. The driver of that vehicle stated he swerved to miss a deer. That unit then went off the roadway to the right, drove thru a fence and struck several small trees. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames. The driver of the vehicle, 18 year old Jace C. Freiboth of Monticello and a passenger, 19 year old Dustin L. Wiegel of Monticello, were both able to exit the vehicle on their own and flag down a motorist. The passenger, Wiegel, was transported from the scene by ambulance to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham with what the ISP says were “incapacitating injuries.” State Police says Freiboth was injured but refused treatment. Freiboth was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to wear a seat belt. Wiegel was ticketed for failure to wear a seat belt.
