By a very slim margin, IHSA members have approved moving to a football district system in 2 years. By a vote of 324-307-69, IHSA members approved moving forward with the district system. Teams will be placed in a district of 8 teams. Their final 7 games of the season will be in the district, with the top 4 teams in the district making the playoffs. The first 2 games of the season will be up to individual schools to schedule. The football district system will start with the 2021 football season, meaning we’ll have 2 more years under the current system. Meanwhile, it’s still going to be a while before the districts come out. In their release, the IHSA says a more definitive timeline on the future release dates of districts and schedules will be developed in conjunction with the IHSA Football Advisory Committee over the course of the 2019-20 school year.
