(Chicago, IL) — Susana Mendoza is holding on to her post as Illinois comptroller. The Democrat celebrated with her supporters after cruising to victory yesterday over Republican former state Representative Darlene Senger. Some experts speculate that Mendoza may still run for mayor of Chicago. A video leaked to the media last week showing her announcing that she is running for mayor. As for Fayette County, Mendoza got only 28% of the vote to Senger taking home nearly 65%.
(Chicago, IL) — State Senator Kwame Raoul will become Illinois’ first new attorney general in 16 years. The Democrat told his supporters there is a lot of work to be done after beating Republican Erika Harold yesterday. The Chicago native will succeed Lisa Madigan, who decided not to seek re-election after holding the attorney general’s post for four terms. As for Fayette County, Harold took better than 71% of the vote to Raoul’s nearly 22%.
Meanwhile, Mike Frerichs was re-elected as Treasurer, and Jesse White once again won a term as Secretary of State. In Fayette County, Republican Jason Helland defeated White, taking 54 to 42 percent. Republican Jim Dodge took 67% of the vote in Fayette County to defeat Frerichs here.
