(Chicago, IL) — Chicago will have a new mayor for the first time in eight years. Mayor Rahm Emanuel yesterday announced that he won’t run for a third term. The announcement set off a wave of candidates jumping into the race. Downstate Illinois lawmakers say while many people may not care about the change, they should because of the outsized role Chicago’s mayor plays in state politics.
