(Chicago, IL) — Even before next month’s planned meeting between Governor Bruce Rauner and the legislative leaders, sniping by both sides is casting doubt on chances for a budget deal. House Speaker Mike Madigan today said Governor Rauner shouldn’t give up hope so soon that the meeting November 18th will be productive. He was reacting to Rauner’s statement Monday that he doesn’t expect an agreement to be reached. Madigan says a deal could be done quickly if Rauner drops his insistence on pro-business, anti-union reforms, but Rauner contends those changes are vital to the state’s economic health.
