The Vandalia Correctional Center held a special event on Saturday to celebrate the one year anniversary of the TAILS Program. The program has VCC and Second Chance Animal Rescue work together, with Second Chance bringing in dogs who are then trained on basic commands and taken care of by the selected inmates in the program. Part of Saturday’s program was the official adoption of a dog, Shelly, by her new owners, Keith and Deanna Kemp of Salem. Vandalia Correctional Center Warden Stephanie Waggoner says the program has been a success on all levels for everyone.
And, Cindy Simmons from Second Chance Animal Rescue agrees.
The program also included each of the offenders in the program getting their certificate for having completed the program. And, one of the offenders spoke to the gathered audience. And, we’ll more from that coming up tomorrow during NewsCenter.
