A Brownstown man has been charged in Fayette County Court with grooming and indecent solicitation of a child. 18-year old Loren Brown is charged with one count of indecent solicitation of a child as he allegedly “with the intent that the offense of aggravated criminal sexual assault be committed, knowingly discussed, by means of the Internet, an act of sexual conduct or sexual penetration with a child under the age of 13.” The charge is a Class 2 felony, punishable by three to seven years in prison. Brown is also charged with one count of grooming as information states Brown allegedly “knowingly used a computer on-line service to solicit, lure or entice a child under the age of 13 to commit the offense of Criminal Sexual Abuse” or “to otherwise engage in any unlawful sexual conduct with a child in that the defendant, using Facebook Messenger, sent private messages asking for sexual favors.” The charge is a Class 4 felony, punishable by one to three years in prison. Brown appeared in Fayette County Court on Friday at which time probable cause was found to detain Brown. Brown was ordered to not have contact with the victim and with Public Defender Bill Starnes present, a bond hearing was held with bond being set at $15,000. A preliminary hearing in the matter is set for August 24 at 11am.
