(St. Louis, MO) — Kolten Wong launched the walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Cardinals topped the Pirates 3-2 in St. Louis. Austin Meadows tied the game in the top of the ninth for Pittsburgh with a solo shot. Marcell Ozuna went deep in the second for the Cards, and Tommy Pham singled in a run. Luke Weaver fired five innings of one-run ball and Bud Norris earned the win for St. Louis. Chad Kuhl tossed six frames of two-run ball for Pittsburgh and Richard Rodriguez gave up the losing homer to take the loss. The Cards are in third place in the stacked NL Central, while the Bucs are two games back in fourth.
(Flushing, NY) — The Cubs put up six runs in the top of the 14th inning for a 7-1 win over the Mets at Citi Field. Albert Almora Jr. started the rally with a two-run double. Ben Zobrist followed with a two-run double of his own and Javier Baez hit a two-run blast to cap the inning for Chicago. The Cubs will go for the four-game sweep on Sunday. Luke Farrell picked up the win. Michael Conforto homered in the sixth for the Mets’ only run. Buddy Baumann took the loss. Jacob deGrom struck out 13 over seven innings of one-run ball. New York has dropped eight-of-10.
