(San Diego, CA) — Eric Hosmer’s run-producing double in the 13th inning lifted the Padres to a 2-1 victory over the Cardinals in San Diego. Jordan Lyles ran for A.J. Ellis, who led off the inning with a walk, and scored on Hosmer’s hit. Padres starter Tyson Ross allowed one run on three hits over six innings. San Diego is 2-and-4 in its last six games. Jose Martinez had three hits, including a RBI-double in the sixth for the St. Louis run. John Brebbia, the seventh of eight Cardinals pitchers, took the loss. The Cardinals are 7-and-3 in their last 10 games.
(Chicago, IL) — Anthony Rizzo drilled a three-run homer in the first and the Cubs never looked back as they cruised past the White Sox 8-4 at Wrigley Field. Willson Contreras hit his third home run in two games for the North Siders, who have taken the first-two of the three-game set with their cross-town rivals. Jon Lester picked up the win and Brandon Morrow notched the save. The Cubs have won five-straight to improve to 21-and-15 overall. White Sox starter James Shields surrendered five runs across six frames of work to take the loss. Matt Davidson hit a three-run bomb for the South Siders. The White Sox are a Major League worst 9-and-27.
