The Vandalia City Council got some good news during Monday night’s first meeting of the month when Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman announced that work has officially begun on the Thrill Hill Bridge. The process of getting the bridge fixed has been a long one as the project has been out for bid more than once and problems such as high bids and changing specifications by the state have caused delays. Now that work has finally begun, Mayor Gottman says everything looks to be going very well.
The Thrill Hill bridge issues has been one spanning several years after the bridge was deemed unsafe by IDOT. Without extra money available from the city at the time to fix the bridge, the bridge has remained close for that extended length of time before the changes from the state and other issues could be remedied to now get to the point of work beginning on the bridge.
