(Springfield, IL) — The state’s Executive Inspector General says a former top administrator at the Illinois Department of Transportation broke the rules when she hired her neighbor. A report released on Wednesday says that Laura Campbell lied when she said she didn’t know the woman she hired to be a fleet manager back in 2014. Turns out, the women were neighbors. I-DOT suspended Campbell last fall, and she retired back in June, but was rehired by I-DOT on a 45-dollars-an-hour short-term contract.
