Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has announced additional steps to be taken if a fiscal year budget is not in place by July 1.
Among the cuts:
–suspending capital projects, including construction at state facilities, schools and colleges (road projects would not be affected)
–suspending operations at the World Shooting Recreational Complex near Sparta. The site would be closed and not available for events
–suspending funding to county fairs for premiums and fairground rehabilitation projects
–suspending funding for agricultural extension and 4-H clubs for premiums at agricultural shows
–suspending funding for the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service
–suspending funding to the Soil and Water Conservation Districts
–suspending funding for small firefighting and ambulance equipment grants
–reduce funding for state-funded job training programs and suspend funding to legislative earmarks for job training
–reduced funding for Amtrak
Rauner said the steps would be taken if there is no budget, or if the budget passed by House and Senate Democrats that includes a $4 billion hole is enacted.
