A 53 year old Effingham man will spend time in the Department of Corrections after being sentenced this week to prison time in both Fayette County and Effingham County Court. On Tuesday in Fayette County Court, 53 year old Johnny Burgess pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and was sentenced by Judge Chris Matoush to 12 months in prison. On Monday, Burgess was sentenced in Effingham County Court to 2 years in prison, as well as one year mandatory supervised release. Burgess was sentenced in Effingham County Court on a charge of Possession of Methamphetamine. Burgess will serve his time consecutively in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
