The City of Vandalia held their budget hearing on Monday, and plan to approve this fiscal year’s budget at a special meeting on Thursday afternoon. Only one individual was on hand for the budget hearing on Monday evening. Mayor Rick Gottman went thru the budget numbers for the City of Vandalia. The total budget for the fiscal year is better than 9.65 million dollars. Three funds are in the red for the year—–The Tourism fund by $38,900, MFT fund by $105,657, and Capital Improvement Fund by $620,950. Mayor Gottman says the Tourism fund is in the red for the year because they have a salary included for a new employee, MFT is in the red for the year as the city will be oiling more streets this year to catch up, and Capital Improvement Fund is in the red due to the Thrill Hill Bridge project and some other projects around the community. Overall, the budget is in the red by $680,603 but Gottman says they have reserve funds that will cover that deficit. All the other funds are in the black for the year. The Vandalia City Council will now hold a special meeting on Thursday afternoon at 4:15 pm to approve the fiscal year budget.
