(Springfield, IL) — The top Democrat in Illinois House isn’t happy with Governor Rauner’s threat to keep lawmakers at the statehouse until they delivered a balanced budget. A spokesman for House Speaker Mike Madigan yesterday said the governor needs to understand that lawmakers have “gone way past middle ground to compromise.” Madigan yesterday orchestrated votes on many of the governor’s demands for a balanced budget, but Republicans called them ‘fake reforms’ and voted against the ideas. The governor yesterday said he’d keep lawmakers at the Capitol for as long as it takes to get a budget.
