(Chicago, IL) — The Illinois Senate is advancing a bill intended to control suspicious gun purchases by licensing gun dealers. The bill would require gun dealers to get a state license and would set standards for training gun shop owners and their employees. Chicago Senator Kwame Raoul told his colleagues that people are tired of the violence on the streets, violence that could spread to the suburbs and beyond. Opponents say guns used in crimes are bought illegally from individuals. The bill now goes to the House.
