A jury trial date has been set for a Vandalia man charged with 10 counts of child pornography after the defendant turned down a plea agreement from the state. 36-year old Ryan J. Koontz appeared in Fayette County Court with attorney Shin Cho on Thursday for a scheduled pre-trial hearing in the matter which was instead expected to be the reaching of a plea agreement. During the appearance, it was announced that Koontz was rejecting the plea deal from the state. After that announcement, State’s Attorney Josh Morrison informed the court that all plea offers were now off the table and the state is ready to proceed to trial. A jury trial date is now set for April 24 at 8:30am with a final pre-trial set for April 13 at 11a.m. Koontz is charged with 8 counts of possession of child pornography, which are Class 2 felonies and punishable by 3-7 years in prison, and 2 counts of reproducing or disseminating child pornography of a child reasonably known to be under 13 years of age, which are punishable by 6-30 years in prison.
