We hear again today from former Cardinal and long time Major Leaguer Ken Oberkfell, as Ken and Glenn Brummer will be in Vandalia on Saturday evening for the 1st ever Vandalia Chamber of Commerce Baseball Dinner. Oberkfell was the starting thirdbaseman on the 1982 World Series team and he says thinking back to that ball club he is just reminded how fundamentally sound the club was.
Some have made the argument that the 1982 Cardinals team may have been the best defensive infield in modern history—with many ranking SS Ozzie Smith and 1B Keith Hernandez as possibly the best all time at their positions and Oberkfell and 2B Tommy Herr being very good defensively, as well. Oberkfell says playing with that group was very special.
The 1st ever Cardinals baseball dinner will be held this Saturday evening at the Vandalia American Legion with dinner being at 6 pm and the program to follow—and the event is a casual event. You can get tickets by stopping by WKRV-WPMB or contacting any Vandalia Chamber of Commerce member.
