Legalized gambling in Illinois would significantly expand under legislation approved by the State Senate on Tuesday. Tied to the Grand Bargain Budget deal, those in favor argue that creating new casinos for the City of Chicago and four other regions of the state would provide an economic boost to Illinois. But, State Senator Kyle McCarter likened the measure to advertised, late night, no effort gadget to lose weight and get physically fit.
Senator McCarter says getting Illinois’ fiscal house in order requires tough and realistic choices rather than gimmicks that do nothing to change the bad policies that brought about the financial and budget crisis.
