After working without a budget since December 1, the Fayette County Board passed a budget for the fiscal year running from December 1, 2016 until November 30 of this year. The board held a budget hearing prior to the regular monthly board meeting with all board members present except for one. After much discussion, the board held a vote on the annual budget and appropriations resolution during the board meeting, passing the budget by a vote of 9-4 with board members Wade Wilhour, Whitey Daniels, John Daniels and Jake Harris voting against the resolution. And after the meeting, Board Chairman Jeff Beckman talking about the work on getting costs down in the county will continue even more to keep up with dwindling revenue.
During the meeting, two department heads in the county spoke about the cuts they have made in their offices and explained that they cannot cut anymore. And Beckman said the county appreciates those who have worked hard and there have been some good ideas about other ways cuts can be made and they will continue to work on those.
Also at the meeting, the board approved a resolution to reappoint Michael Maxey as the County Engineer, approved appointments for conflict public defenders for the county and a resolution for the state’s attorney’s appellate prosecutor.
