(Springfield, IL) — Some Illinois school districts are standing with Governor Rauner in his efforts to eliminate unfunded but costly mandates imposed on schools by lawmakers. Among the requirements Rauner wants to see eliminated are those for drivers education and daily phys ed. Rauner also wants to erase wage and union restrictions on contracts for transportation and janitorial services. Schools can already seek waivers from these and other mandates, but administrators say the process is cumbersome.
