(Springfield, IL) — Illinois schools are in line for non-classroom funding. Newly-elected Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza is promising to send payments next week to schools that have been waiting up to six-months for money for transportation, special education and other expenses. The stopgap spending plan about to expire included a full-year’s funding for schools, so they wouldn’t be left in the lurch should a new budget agreement not be reached. These special payments were in the state’s 11-billion-dollar stack of unpaid bills.
