After a week off, the Lady Vandals will be back in action tonight at Hillsboro. Tonight’s conference matchup will mean more than just a win in the SCC standings for one team though, as it will also mark two conference teams coming together for a good cause. Tonight is Volley for Grace, a match that is part of an effort between Hillsboro, Lincolnwood, Morrisonville and Vandalia to raise funds for research at Washington University in St. Louis in honor of Hillsboro’s Grace Herschelman who suffers from the rare genetic disorder INAD which stands for Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy. Vandalia Coach Amber Connor, also an alum of Hillsboro, says she was glad that Vandalia was able to join the effort this year and has been overwhelmed by the support from the Vandalia community.
And Connor is excited for her team to be able to play in a match that is always a hard fought one between the two teams, but also one that after the girls, having had the chance to meet Grace herself recently, will have much more meaning than just the conference rivalry.
Spectators who are planning to attend the game are encouraged to wear purple in honor of Volley for Grace. Tonight’s action will get underway at 5:00 with the freshman match with JV to follow at 6p.m. and Varsity to wrap up the evening after the completion of the JV match.
