(Springfield, IL) — Legislation is scheduled to take effect in January that will allow Illinois pharmacies to put locking devices on prescriptions for hydrocodone. Illinois will be the first state to have such a program. The legislation, signed Thursday, offers rebates to consumers who purchase the locked bottles as part of the pilot program. The motivation behind the law is to combat prescription drug abuse.
