A Farina man charged with aggravated kidnapping stemming from an incident Saturday that led to an Amber Alert, appeared in Fayette County Court on Monday. 34-year old Darrel K. Moulton has been charged with aggravated kidnapping as he allegedly, “knowingly and secretly confined Gahret K. Moulton, a child under the age of 13 years, against his will.” Moulton appeared in court Monday morning to be read the charges against him in what became a bit of a heated appearance as Moulton interrupted the presiding Judge Don Scheafor several times as he said “he wanted to tell his side of the story.” Judge Scheafor informed him several times that chance would come later in the criminal court procedure following Moulton either being appointed a public defender or hiring a private attorney and consulting with his defense attorney and a preliminary hearing being held at which time evidence could be presented. Moulton will now have to fill out a financial affidavit which will be reviewed by Judge Scheafor to see if Moulton has the means to hire a private attorney or if he meets the requirements for a public defender to be appointed. Probable cause was presented by State’s Attorney Josh Morrison and probable cause was found to detain Moulton and bond in the matter was set at $500,000. First appearance with counsel and preliminary hearing for Moulton will now be held on August 17 at 11a.m.
