With parking on 5th and 6th Streets being a much discussed topic at several Vandalia City Council in recent months, aldermen got to see a mock-up of possible changes. Mayor Rick Gottman told council members and the audience that Crawford & Associates had put together a mock-up that shows angled parking on both the east and west sides of 6th Street on the north side of Gallatin street with the turn lane removed on the street. The angled parking would take the number of possible parking spots from the current 16 spots up to an additional 20 spots to make a total of 36 possible spots. On 5th Street, Crawford’s mock-up shows current parallel parking remaining on the west side of the street with new angled parking on the east side of the street or the side along City Hall. The total number of spots on that stretch of 5th Street would be up to 25. With the mock-up in hand, Mayor Gottman says that the information will be shared with business and property owners along each street and input sought on the possible changes before anything is finalized and moved forward.
