(Springfield, IL) — Among the state’s seven-billion-dollar stack of unpaid bills is one that could have an impact on police activities across the state. The state owes three-million-dollars to the FBI for processing fingerprints and conducting criminal background checks, a debt that Uncle Sam has been trying to collect. The FBI’s next step would be to turn the debt over to the Treasury Department, which could force the state to pay under threat of withholding future services.
