The Vandalia City Council Monday night approved a new waste collection agreement with Doty Sanitation that includes changes as to how and where Doty will pick up trash from Vandalia residents. With the new agreement, trash customers will receive a 96-gallon container from Doty Sanitation and will place it street side as Doty will no longer be picking up trash from alleys. There was some discussion on the matter after a motion was made to approve the agreement. Alderman Russ Stunkel asked David Doty about a couple concerns with those being areas where residents had steep yards or embankments and areas such as 6th Street where residents have a separation between the street and sidewalk.
The council approved the agreement by a vote of 7-0. The new agreement will go into effect August 1 and will also include a no rate increase for waste collection for the next two years.
