(Springfield, IL) — Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan says he’s not involved in legal action to block a referendum on changing the way political maps are drawn, but an attorney who has worked for Madigan is. Michael Kasper is the attorney for the state Democratic party that Madigan runs, but he’s also working for a group of minority leaders seeking to block the effort by the Independent Maps coalition to bring their plan to voters. That plan would remove much of the power of political parties in drawing district boundary lines and has attracted some five-hundred-70-thousand petitions signatures.
