(Springfield, IL) — The latest state revenue numbers show how poorly the state is performing. Through April, the Department of Revenue reports base receipts are down nearly five-billion-dollars, with gross numbers for personal and corporate income taxes behind last year. The state has seen slight increases in taxes on insurance, inheritance, sales, liquor and tobacco. Meanwhile the state has piled up three-billion-dollars in health insurance claims from its employees with those companies waiting more than five-hundred days to be paid.
